SmartD Technologies Inc. based in Quebec Canada has released their latest generation of “Clean Power VFD’s” with “Pure Sine Wave” 3-phase output, fully regenerative AFE, less than <5%THD & near Unity PF=1. Currently they are available in 480VAC and 600VAC, in either 22A or 35A current ratings. These drives incorporate the latest in power electronics SiC and GaN technologies, patented embedded filters and power control algorithms to cancel harmonics and noise at the source. An STO (Safe Torque Off) input is standard, as are V/Hz and Vector control modes. Configuration and monitoring are easily done by mobile APP, there is a drive mounted operator HMI and the VFD has 24VDC external power terminals for control redundancy/system ride-through on power outage/brownouts. Modbus TCP is standard plus 2 ethernet ports for easy daisy-chaining of communications cables to multiple drives.

No need to replace the motor for a VFD rated one, nor special cabling. In fact you can run a standard motor setup up to 300M or 1000ft without issues. You also do NOT need harmonic filtering VFD transformers, line/load reactors, special motor grounding bearings and rings, no common mode chokes/ferrite rings nor other expensive ‘traditional VFD related accessories’ needed by the now redundant IGBT technology from the 1980’s. ATTN ALL CONSULTING ENGINEERS! PLEASE REVISE YOUR SPECIFICATIONS…”ALL VFD’s SHALL BE CLEAN POWER VFDS WITH PURE SINE WAVE OUTPUT. NO IGBT BASED VFDS SHALL BE ACCEPTED“.
Regen AFE & SiC high-speed capabilities means more and new applications are now possible for; carbon sequestering, waste energy re-capture, on-site power generation & pumped storage for examples.
